That really depends on what the software does with such a device. Basically
it´s true that a colorimeter is often trained on a specific display type or
light source and the larger the gamut gets or the more the specific display
deviates from the reference, the more the device tends to create erroneous
results. However, the DTP94 is pretty much stable and the Quato software
includes a device correction to make the measurements of a DTP94 on selected
(means supported) wide gamut displays on par with spctrophotometer results.
Spectros like the EyeOne Pro or the Munki have also some limitiataion
regarding low luminance measurements and narrow CCFL peaks on wide gamut
displays. Thus, there is no perfect solution.
