I second Matt's obsevations. May I suggest you take a look at BabelColor
PatchTool which offers a command to make ICC-type color conversions based on
CGATS text file. Whatever results you'd get out of PatchTool *will* be the
same as all the "valid" CMMs out there, including AdobeCMM and the others.

Hello again,
Thank you for the prompt response, but I feel I should append my original
post:
I have a quick question about the conversion engine when converting RGB
images to CMYK outside of the Adobe Suite.
What are the significant differences between the major engines, and is there
a noticeable difference in a side-by-side comparison of a file converted
using different engines?
Many thanks for your help.

Personally, I don't see any differences. And I have not studied the possible
differences. I'll let the other List members who have studied the matter
respond. Yet, I must say, "living" inside Adobe's Creative Suite, to me, I
consider myself "shielded" from any differences, if any, from the other CMM,
sticking to AdobeCMM.
When turning my jobs to a printer, I no longer have control on anything.
So,
why bother?
My two cents ... / Roger Breton
