If there is a difference, personally, I don't believe I would see the
difference, if any. That is a big *if* but I assume the CMM correctly
creates what Apple's ColorSync documentation calls the "color world" (or is
it the "G-world -- can't remember?) but the point is that there aren't too
many ways to make the conversion from a pair of profiles in a "ICC way",
outside of converting ICC profiles to PostScript CSA's and CRD's in a
PostScript RIP. I mean, the conversion can be easily be traced through. All
"valid" CMMs will give the same conversion, more or less, with rounding off
errors, in my view, because there is a lot of interpolation going on, so
it's possible one CMM will do something a bit different than another.

Hello again,
Thank you for the prompt response, but I feel I should append my original
post:
I have a quick question about the conversion engine when converting RGB
images to CMYK outside of the Adobe Suite.
What are the significant differences between the major engines, and is there
a noticeable difference in a side-by-side comparison of a file converted
using different engines?
Many thanks for your help.

Personally, I don't see any differences. And I have not studied the possible
differences. I'll let the other List members who have studied the matter
respond. Yet, I must say, "living" inside Adobe's Creative Suite, to me, I
consider myself "shielded" from any differences, if any, from the other CMM,
sticking to AdobeCMM.
When turning my jobs to a printer, I no longer have control on anything.
So,
why bother?
My two cents ... / Roger Breton
