Hi Howard
We face the same problem here in the photography department at Massey
University. (By the sound of it)
Between our IT support and I we solved the problem here by writing a
log-in script.
I make custom profiles for the lab workstation monitor and name the
custom profile with a file name that starts with the machine-name of
that work station.
This profile is then installed on the MacHD/library/Profiles/
colorsync/displays. In our student lab we remove write protection
from this location..
When a student logs on, a log-in script searches the colorsync
directory for a file name starting with the machine name .
When the script finds it, it loads the monitor profile. If the script
doesn't find a profile starting with the machine name, it brings up a
warning dialogue box to the user to advise them that their screen is
not displaying color and tone accurately. The 'OK' button on the
message window then opens the Display Preferences pane. The cancel
button allows them to continue using an un-profiled machine.
This method has proved very robust for our environment..
Regards
Peter Miles
PS: Our IT support recently adapted the script to load correct
profiles for dual monitor situations too.
