I am using iSis with my gmg and I love it. I preffer it over dtp-70 any day. I am in USA (New York) and we make lots of dotproofs for newspapers. I replaced BlackMagic with gmg and I am much happier now. You can't really use gmg or any inkjet screened proof to catch moire issues. It's more of a tool to show you gradient smoothness and contrast when file will be screened. As you know contone proofs look always nice and sharp and have good details. You may loose this on the press. With gmg you have option to either genererate screening using gmg rip (Adobe PE based) or screen in your prepress rip (Rampage, Prinergy, Apogee or whatever else you use). If you screen in prepress software gmg will recognize screening and you could use it more likely for moire issues because screening will match your platemaking screening more closely. But there is always but... Your plates are made by laser device and your screened proofs are by inkjet printer nozzles. They are NOT the same. They cannot be the same so I would not use dotproofs for moire check. To tell you the truth I have never seen moire issues for years unless you are talking about scanned printing pieces.

Derek Lambert

I'd like to have it -- in the same way I like to have 64 bit :-) -- but the only time we are ever asked for dots is when we supply ads to US magazines. I'm not forking out that much cash just to satisfy their specifications as the majority of the proofs never make it to the US because the deadlines are too tight.
