Bet you dollars to doughnuts it's just converting TO Lab from some RGB space. There's no such thing as a Lab capture or output device.
The latest version of Adobe Camera Raw can also be set to provide Lab. It's processing color space is ProPhoto RGB primaries. You want it to convert from the native color space to Lab, it will do so (as will Photoshop). So what?
