My experience has been that X-Rite makes absolutely awesome hardware...and adequate software. Really, it's somewhat analogous to the camera manufacturers which typically make wonderful cameras and adequate raw development and photo manipulation software.
But that's okay because the hardware isn't tied to their software. If you're not afraid of the command line, you'll be hard pressed to find a better profiling package than Argyll CMS -- and it's free and very well supported to boot.
If you don't care for the command line, there are many other alternatives, typically commercial, generally well worth the money, and whose developers are regular contributors to this list. Browse through the archives and you should be able to figure out who wrote what; pick from that list and you're unlikely to be unhappy.
Cheers,
b&

> Terry, I most definitely did let X-Rite know I was looking for such a utility. It seems so incongruous that they put in the time to put together such a fine specimen in the i1pro2 but the i1profiler software seems like it's missing things, or at times feels glitchy, etc. It's not bad, but when I'm missing things that I used to have, it just feels frustrating.

There's also the ColorPort Utility (free) that will let you freely define a chart and allow you to look at the measurement colorimetry/densitometry without needing to save/export the data. It supports the i1Pro2 but only in "legacy" mode (M0, M2 only).

I was used to being able to take readings of all sorts of objects (not just charts) with the ColorPicker module and exporting spectral data, Lab colors, Photoshop palettes or a number of other formats with ColorPicker, a module in ProfileMaker Pro, with which I would imagine many of you would be fairly well acquainted.

I see that I can do something kinda like it by telling it to measure a chart, but I have to pre-define how many colors I'd like to measure and I have only one very basic export option for a text document of Lab colors. Not very wieldy.
