Actually you're 'conditionally' licensed to use it and you can resell that
license, but you never have total control over it. Much like a photograph or
work of art, you may own the print, but you don't own the image. There are
strings attached. When you own something you can do what you like with it.
Software comes with many restrictions over its use and it must be registered
and activated for use on a single computer and so forth. Your rights are
limited and can actually be revoked. This was always the case, but now we
live in a world where it's practical for a software company to lease their
products where that wasn't practical before.
