There is a possible explanation for this sort of behaviour, if the media is both
textured and at all glossy, and that is (typically) a scanner will illuminat at
such an angle to avoid the specular component, but with a textured surface some
of the specular will be captured, leading to more light than expected hitting
the sensor at certain pixels. Because the spatial resolution of a scanner is
much greater than a color instrument, this may not show up in a measurement.
