They should create an updated profile called AdobeRGB(2015) or something, like IDEAlliance did with GRACoL when they updated it from GRACoL2006 to GRACoL2013. Updating and renaming it gives the option to use it or not, depending on the amount of legacy images that would be affected.
I want to take the bait on AdobeRGB being on the “small” side but I’ll save it for later. I’m giving a “color management for photographers” presentation in a couple of weeks for the Charlotte (NC) photography group where I intend to trash both ProPhotoRGB and AdobeRGB and have them all start using sRGB. :-) But seriously, I may bad-mouth ProPhoto a little bit since it’s way too big and unsafe for the vast majority of “consumer” photographers I’ll be talking to…..to be fair though, I intend to show them proper soft-proofing if they’re crazy enough to use ProPhoto.
;-)

Consequently in the 17 years of Adobe RGB (1998), has this been a problem for many? In fact, why is anyone using Adobe RGB (1998) anyway? Kind of the small side gamut wise IMHO.
