Hi Jim,
Yes it's not often a good thing to patch old stuff to the new. The G4 dual 500 has AGP graphics which makes finding compatible cards difficult.
I have in fact a PCI card from a QuickSilver with 32 Mb and DVI plug, but it is not running well on the AGP and the resolution is something like 600x800 on the Nec which is horrible... and worst, I get fatal error when the G4 gets iddle. And the graphics from my G4 Mirrored door and G5 are unsupported.
If the Belkin ADC to DVI cable adapter would pull at least the full resolution of the Apple cinema 22 from the original ATI rage 6 Radeon with 16Mb, this would be enough, since I wont use that link to do more than running a Basiccolor Photoshop filter once in a while. It seems that this adapter can be had for a relatively affordable price.

Hi Paul,
Thinking about it a little, which G4, video card, and operating system are you using? Some of the newer displays don't support the "older" resolutions, especially the defaults, and the adapters can add to the issue. Pay little or nothing if you can.

Hello Jim,
Good to know, thanks for the tip! They seem to be unavailable new but I could spot some on the bay.
Cheers

Hello Paul,
While there may be others, but Belkin and Gefen made ADC to DVI adapter cables.

I am bound to an old G4 to use a machine locked calibration software and I wanted to fit that machine to the NEC PA271W which has two DVI connectors in addition to the DisplayPort in order to reduce the bulk of all that equipment on my desktop. There are adapters to use old ADC cinema dispalys on DVI graphic cards, but I could not find a solution to plug a DVI monitor to the ADC port of the G4. I bought a simple DVI to VGA adapter first, but that doesn't do the trick since the NEC PA271 doesn't take analog signals as I am now aware (the PA241 would).
One solution would be to replace the graphic card with one that has DVI output, and maybe that could still be found used. But simpler: would someone know if there exists (or existed) a cable that converts the Apple ADC to use a standard DVI monitor on the G4?
