Maybe "standard" isn't the right word. In a sense the standard thing is
that Apps don't
do the CM -- OSX does via ColorSync.
But there does seem to be a consensus between at least Adobe (i.e. PS),
Apple, and Epson
that there is enough info in the print settings that an App can reach in
figure out the
print profile that would be used, tag the data with that profile so that
OSX/Colorsync
will do a null transform i.e NoCM. It works from PS CS4 to CC, OSX 10.6 to
10.11 and
the appropriate Epson printers/drivers. PS dropped the user select-ability
of NoCM
but it still needs to use this in order to have Photoshop Manages Color.
My first interest with Print-Tool was that the above flat out did not work
for grayscale.
Followed by the desire to get back the NoCM capability that PS dropped.
