I think by “printer manufacturer” Graeme is talking about companies like Epson,
Canon, HP, Oce, VuTek, Vanguard, etc. These companies want to distribute
profiles with their printers so their customers can do great work without the
hassle of custom calibration and profiling. Media manufacturers like Legion,
Breathing Color, Worthen Industries, etc also have these questions.
Some of the affordable licensing options aren’t the highest quality profiles,
and some of the highest quality options aren’t very affordable. From what I can
see, there’s not a lot of policing going on and quite a few handshake deals.
