That is what I understand from xrite’s license agreement.
Essentially they are saying this.
1. You can give away your profiles if they are connected to selling your
product (paper, printers, ink, etc).
2. You can make profiles for customers as long as you have some basic 1-1
consultation/interaction with them. (Aka, don’t do this for too cheap and in a
totally automated way!)
3. If you just post a bunch of ICC profiles on the web for people to buy at say
$15/per with paypal checkout, Xrite isn’t going to be happy.
tldr: xrite wants to have the monetary value of your ICC profile end-products
not deflate too much or compete with them selling more spectros to individual
photo labs. The want to control the flow of digital products created by their
tools and customers. Legal gray area in my opinion. Epson doesn’t own the
distribution rights of the prints I make out of their printer for example . . .
