I call AudioGetDeviceProperty to get kAudioDevicePropertyVolumeScalar from my iBook SE's sole output device, "Built-in audio controller". No matter what channel I use (0, 1, 2) is get status "Unknown property". How can that be?

I have glanced at the HALRoutines.c file of the sample Daisy, but it doesn't clue me. Daisy certainly shows volume sliders (though I can't tell if they work since I can't find an AIFF file it will load).
