MIDI Config Interface w/ OS X

Hey Everyone,
I'm new to this list but a music producer addicted to my Mac. I was
talking to a friend of mine @ Apple and he said to come to this list to ask
my question. My question is this: does OS X's MIDI system have some way to
graphically configure MIDI devices (interfaces, devices, patches) like in
OMS or FreeMIDI? Or does the MIDI system in OSX auto detect and auto-route
all the devices? I would like to pose this thought to anyone who is
developing that, have a repository setup so that developers of MIDI hardware
can upload a simple "driver" which sets all of the information required to
identify the device and configure it (IE: multitimbral, MCC, etc)? If you
have questions on that last bit let me know! Thanks a bunch!
