Well... there is a standardized USB MIDI device class. However, most USB

So they do in fact require custom drivers from the manufacturer.
It might be helpful for someone to start compiling some sort of ad hoc list
of USB MIDI interfaces that work with OS X, and whether or not they need
custom drivers. I find myself in the situation of needing a new multi-port
MIDI interface, and of course would like to buy one that will work with OS
X. I know that Midiman's interfaces have OS X drivers, but I also know that
the Midiman USB interface which I already own has problems handling SysEx
transfers when running under OS 9. Hence I am reluctant to invest more money
in their equipment. I have had very good luck with both a MOTU USB Fastlane
and a MOTU MTP AV connected via a Keyspan serial-USB converter, so I am
considering purchasing another MOTU interface. But I have not tried to use
either of these MOTU interfaces with OS X, and MOTU doesn't seem to say
anything about OS X on their website, so I am unsure whether purchasing
another one of their interfaces is a good choice.
Or, to put the question simply: which multi-port USB interfaces that I can
buy today, or within the next few months, work well with both OMS under OS 9
and OS X?
