As you have observed, on Mac OS X 10.1, Classic does not support sound
input.

This list is for discussion of Mac OS X audio development. If you are
porting your app to X (even just Carbonization as long as it is audio
related), this is the place to ask your question.

I would regard Classic's lack of support for sound input as either a feature
request or a bug (take your pick) and report it through more appropriate
channels.
