API for setting system volume

  • Subject: API for setting system volume

I'm trying to write a shell program which will adjust the system volume, among other things. I've already managed to use CoreAudio to grab and change the volume settings.

However, those volume changes don't seem to get propagated to the various system volume utilities: Sound Preference Pane, Menu Docklet, Volume Key Daemon, etc. Daisy does see the changes however, and I can certainly hear the change.

My question is this: should I be using some other higher-level API that these other system services tap into, or is it just a bug that those services don't get updated by the HAL?

Thanks.
