Quicktime 6 and Multichannel Audio

I heard that there was a demo at the Apple developer conference where
Quicktime was being used to playback discrete multichannel audio. How was
this done? The what's new in QT6 pdf doc says that multichannel AAC
decoding is not possible yet?
We are desperately looking for a way to output multichannel audio from a mac
from a web browser based environment. We've used digidesign hardware in
other demos to get multichannel sound, but we would like to have all audio
playback take place in the web browser environment. Any suggestions??? ANY
help is greatly appreciated. Please share your knowledge.
