[OT] EMI 2|6 firmware installer

[Warning: this mail might be considered to be off topic]

I'm mailing this complaint to the list because I know there are Emagic
developers hanging around, and because perhaps some Apple people
might enlighten me on some hidden 'issues' in OSX regarding software
installation.

I've downloaded the new EMI 2|6 driver (v2.1) from Emagic. This driver
comes with an installer (one I've seen before, I think Microsoft uses it as
well for their Office X product) which insists on shutting down all running
applications before commencing with the install.

This is, AFAIK, completely unnecessary. OSX is a modern OS, and updating
drivers is not in any way 'dangerous' enough to justify demanding to shut
down running applications.

The only reason I can think of for this happening is that the installer is
some sort of cross-OS product which should also work in OS9 (which doesn't
seem logical with the name being 'EMI 2.1 for Mac OS X').

So my plea to Emagic engineers: please consider using the default .pkg
method of installing your drivers. You have done so in the past (if I
remember correctly) and it always worked out very well.

My 2 eurocents, sorry to have bothered you, folks :)

robert
