I've seen this too (just using Daisy even).

My guess would be that it is a bug in the Sound Prefs Panel/Menu Bar Extra.
They seem to not always respond to all the control notifications. I have
verified that the notifications are getting to them in a timely fashion, but
sometimes they just seem to not cause any reaction. I don't know why.
