OT: Why iTunes takes so much proc power

iTunes isn't a direct client of the CoreAudio services. It uses the Sound
Manager API for all it's playback needs.

Is this why iTunes take so much processing power? Using top from Terminal, it shows that iTunes (1.1.2) uses about 10-20 percent of the CPU time when it's playing, whether that's MP3 or AIFF, and about 10-15 percent when playing a CD. Someone on the student-dev list I think said that this was rather high for MP3 decoding, and it certainly should be for CD playing and AIFF.

Jim
