The short answer is that there is currently no difference between the two
drivers.
"Additional benefits" was a statement that was referring to the setup
process.
If you want to use the generic Apple driver - you have extra steps on
setup - that's all.
We agree with you that hopefully a divergent driver path will never be
necessary - but (worst case) if so, you know your device will have the
capability.
We will alter the readme file so it is clearer.
