Sorry to hear that I am not the only one struggling with sample code and
APIs written in Java for CoreAudio.
While the company iCEO struggles to have us. developers, embrace ObjC at
every public appearance, on the other side, if you use a CoreAudio
developer then you are pushed back to the realms of Java.
I've said it before: I've got nothing against the language personaly
minor insufficient maturity and features. What causes me a problem is the
simple fact that all CoreAudio examples are published in Java (except the
HAL testing tools for a good reason.) But then if I want to develop an
Audio Unit filter, I am back to C++. What an I make about that?
Not going the Java route for writting my app is very essential for me. If
my product is cross platform (you know... the other 95%) then writing in
something other than C/C++ doesn't make any sense at all. If it did, then
I would use ObjC.
Also, why does it still takes more than 5-7 seconds to start any Java app
on OS X even after installing 10.1 which gave a significant boost to
everything else. For example, IE starts in half the time than an simple
hello world java app. [I know why it's called java now: start your app,
and go get a cup of coffee while waiting for the app to come up.]
I just hope that people at Apple realize soon enough that choice is
good will start offering more than one (documented) path to adopt their
APIs. If not, then there isn't much point developing them in the first
place as history as already shown us (e.g. objc + openstep.)

PS: don't cc me in your reply. I am on the list
