'software' midi destination

C. Audio,

Could someone point me in the direction of a 'software' MIDI device? I thought you could use QuickTime for that but haven't read how that is possible. I want avoid hooking a physical MIDI device, but I want to be able to do the usual MIDI output stuff during development.
