The Finder will not update its database of app/document type/icon
associations in some cases. Creating an app by building it seems to be
one of them. Here's how to give it a kick, in order of easiest to
hardest:
* Log out and back in again
* Take your app, move it someplace else (perhaps across partitions), and
move it back again
* rm ~/Library/Preferences/LS*, then log out and back in (but this may
delete custom app/type associations... be careful)
This is all horrible voodoo, but it usually works after a few tries. I
would love to know the "right" way to do this, if there is one.
Of course, we can't expect end users to do this. I think the Finder
works in the majority of the end-user cases (like when the user
downloads an app, or inserts a CD with an app on it) but there is just
something about this local-building case that it misses. I have no idea
what exactly the problem is.
