not all imics have gain controls visible to the HAL. in particular,
the older ones do not. i just purchased some brand new imics a few
weeks ago and was surprised that they _did_ have (HAL) input gain
controls.
That makes sense, thanks a lot. Also, thanks John for the pointer to
iMic Control.
