Hi Luke,

I have been working on getting midi input from an external device. My app passed the 4 year old boy test. It didn't crash after hitting the record button and letting him go wild on the keys.
Could you do another test for me? After you download the app and unstuff,

http://www.midinight.com/Downloads/MidiNight.sit

turn on your midi hardware then start the MidiProject.app. Then go to the Midi Device menu and select Set. You should see your hardware there. You can select an input, but you can't select an output. Your hardware device name may be in the "Send Midi Data to: " list, but selecting it will do nothing. The app outputs to a internal java synthesizer. I like it better than the DSL for now.
Okay, now that you have the midi hardware set up for input, go to the Sequence menu and select Record Settings... Select the Use Metronome and enter a Record Delay ( the amount of metronome clicks before the recording starts.). Select Record Enabled in the Tracks information panel. Then hit the record button ( the one to the far left with the circle ). After you are done playing hit the stop button ( the square one ). Hit the play button. Let me know what happens... You should be able to edit the midi data by double clicking the track panel. You can't copy a track yet.
The app still needs work. The menu is buggy ever since I made it a MIDIClient and set the endpoint. If I select the Midi Device fast, and then select any menu quickly after I have set the Midi Device I get a freeze on my machine. Turning off the hardware during a session also makes bad things happen. I think have got to Cocoa up this app.
I gotta go back to my day job and work on a web site applications for a Chinese Language School. The Chinese take learning very seriously, they want to know who is doing there homework by sniffing what child went to the web apps. I never did my homework as a kid.
