Marc Poirier:

Hmm, I think we're talking different things (probably my fault due to
lingual restrictions).

Yup, I see now: you're talking about handling FXB/FXP files, and I was
talking about handling the VST settings stored as state data within a host
song/document file.

:-)

Thus I suggest an import functionality
<snip>
that this is
an ideal opportunity for a 3rd party presets conversion app
<snip>

So be it, if you asked me. - Putting it in stone I suggest:

- VST UniqueID must be identical with AUComponent's Subtype
- PlugIn name alone is not sufficient (one AudioUnit including multiple components vs. multiple seperate VSTs)
- VST data goes into "vstdata" keyed chunk of AU preset file
- Hosts can decide themselves if they offer conversion, otherwise a (freeware?) utility could do it

Get on the keys, Marc! :-)

Cheers,

;) Urs

(say P4P, again)
