Hi there,

Though always using a quarter note value for the beat might be
"musically
incorrect", perhaps this kludge is the least ambiguous choice in a
sequencer
context?
Surely using the denominator is the least guess work seeing as the
"beat" is 99% of the time divisible by this number, no?
As has been mentioned, often 6/8 is compound so a quarter note would be
simply incorrect...
Tempo is seen as Beats Per Minute in a typical sequencer user
interface. If
a tune has a global tempo specified with an initial tempo marking in the
conductor track, but the tune switches time signature a few times, it
could
become confusing?
It would more undesirable to have a plugin following the beat of a
different drum, so to speak...
Tempo alone tells you nothing about the feel.
The tempo could be set at 120; but how many differing time signatures
are there?
(theoretically the denominator could be anything)
It doesn't make sense to ignore the time signature...which is what a
quarter note would do.
Sure it works for Rock'n'Pop but a more intelligent selection should be
used...
Though this behavior might be "musically correct", perhaps it would
catch a
sequencer user by surprise?
That's the challenge of a good plugin perhaps...
with regards,
