Some 6/8 tunes are counted/conducted in 2's, other 6/8 compositions are
counted in 6's. Ambiguous unless you know something about the composer's
intentions.
Though always using a quarter note value for the beat might be "musically
incorrect", perhaps this kludge is the least ambiguous choice in a sequencer
context?
Tempo is seen as Beats Per Minute in a typical sequencer user interface. If
a tune has a global tempo specified with an initial tempo marking in the
conductor track, but the tune switches time signature a few times, it could
become confusing?
The "actual perceived" tempo could suddenly change with each time sig
change. If the Time Sig change also changes the sequencer's beat value, the
BPM vs TickRate would have to be recalculated. The sequencer's tick rate
could (radically) change along with each time sig change?
Though this behavior might be "musically correct", perhaps it would catch a
sequencer user by surprise?
