Audio bundles

Hi,

Tell me if I should post the following suggestion also elsewhere to Apple.

I think there should be some way to define audio bundles on MacOS X core audio,
the Audio Setup application would fit very well.

An audio bundle is a named set of ordered channels chosen by the user.
I've seen this feature in Digital Performer, but I guess any application doing
surround sound would have this implemented in some way (suggesting that this
could be implemented at a higher level).

This could be used to define bundles for surround sound (declare wich channel is
for left/center/rear left/ ...) (may be one day, DVD Player will output in
surround), stereo (to allow iTunes to output to any pair of channels instead of
the first two of the first stream, to select the digital output for instance).

This would allow for more efficient use of ressources because the system would
know which stream/channel are in use. (see "'Ganged' or 'Linked' Hardware" post
from B.J. Buchalter).

Best regards,

Jean-Alexis Montignies
