audio outputs

All,

I have tried searching for this answer with no luck, probably using the wrong words.

So here is the question, using CoreAudio is there a way for me to treat what is being sent to the default AudioOutput device as an audio input? In other words if I had a music sequencing program or an audio program such as iTunes which was sending audio to my system speakers, could I write some CoreAudio code that would treat the audio from these programs as input?
