Reporting Sample Rate mismatches to users

Is there a standard method for notifying users of a sample rate mismatch in a core audio driver?

I have a driver for a S/PDIF PCI device. Users can mistakenly plug a cable with a rate that is different than the nominal one (the one in the application).
