Its also extremely important that you register a manufacturer code, to ensure an uniqueness for your own name-space

It was the subtype. They were the same, but I'm very confused
because the
CoreAudio documentation says:

"This field can be used in any way that a developer sees fit as there
is no required sub-type IDs for the V2 AudioUnit".

This is obviously a typo then or at least very ambigious.


Oh, heh heh, that is unclear, isn't it? ;) Well, I can tell you that
there is a historical reason for that, which is that originally the idea
was that the subtype would always be one of a set of pre-defined
codes for certain plugin types (like delay, reverb, lowpass, etc.).
Those types are still defined in AUComponent.h, I think. But anyway,
that idea was soon dropped in favor of sub-type simply being an identifier
that could be any value, as long as it is unique with respect to the
chosen
manufacturer and type codes. Seems to me, too, like the docs should word
that
a little more clearly...
