Thanks Richard, but as mentioned in the original post I've
seen these, and this information is not up-to-date with
current practice in encoding AIFF/AIFC by Apple apps et alia.

The most recent spec referenced from this page is marked
"draft" and is from 12 years ago, not counting the
QuickTime/Sound Mgr. documentation which is not complete
(no detailed description on structure or use of AIFC extensions
such as marker chunks, saxel chunks (does anyone use these?),
MIDI and instrument chunks, not to mention undocumented chunks).

P.S. Robert G. thanks for the mailing list tip, I'll
try the pro-apps-dev list for Soundtrack-specific AIFF info...

Hi Chris,
Have you checked out this list?

Apple folks there might be able to answer some questions?
Hope that helps,
Robert.

Is the spec for the AIFF/AIFC format as currently implemented by
Apple apps publicly available (free or for a fee)?

In looking at AIFF files provided with Soundtrack I'm seeing things
that aren't mentioned in either the old (sgi.com) AIFC spec found online,
in the original AIFF draft spec from Apple, or in the QuickTime /
Sound Manager documentation. In particular there are chunks like
'basc', 'trns', 'cate', and 'JUNK'. If these are application-specific things
I'd expect them to be buried in an 'APPL' chunk, but they're not.

I've also seen a few places online where "undocumented extensions"
to AIFF are mentioned, which don't utilize the 'APPL' chunk.

I'd like to maximize interoperability with Soundtrack and other apps
that make extended use of AIFF/AIFC.
