This may be a few months premature, but I'd like to get some info from
the gurus, about how to plan for hosting AU's from MacFOH.
To describe MacFOH: (say "Mac Front Of House"). It is a complete
suite of tools for live sound concert engineers, touring, theatre, etc.
MacFOH has three main features, the Analyzer, which hosts
multi-channel FFT analysis modules, similar to Smaart Live and
SpectraFoo, but with a very unique approach. It also controls 3rd
party DSP loudspeaker controller and digital EQ units, via MIDI (and
eventually serial). There is also a Show Controller for sequencing
MIDI events, controlling patch changes and playing SFX cues, which
integrates with the internal tools. The other tools are comprised of
many widgets and calculators, databases, etc, for managing sound checks
and full productions. Full remote control and stream sharing over
networks, between app instances. It uses HAL directly, as well as
Rendezvous, DiscBurning, vecLib, CoreAudio, CoreMIDI, CoreGraphics and
OpenGL.... but no Carbon. Uses 10.2.3 or greater.
In what ways should I plan to properly host AU's? I am going to offer
native DSP crossover and EQ abilities within MacFOH later this year,
and want to be able to host 3rd party dynamics processing, possibly
utilizing extra I/O channels as effects loops, etc.
I've noticed quite a bit of Carbon-speak about implementing the AU GUI
functions, vs Cocoa, and it's got me slightly concerned as to the best
way to approach it, before I'm embedded too deeply with my current
class structuring.
Thanks guys!
