Hello? Protected memory anyone? You can't have one process directly
access the memory of another. Not unless there's a negotiated
arrangement like a shared memory buffer.

Hmmm, you could printf the ComponentInstance pointer to the console.
Then you launch a little commandline tool you've written in about 4
minutes which takes this number as argument. Your command line tool
does nothing else than calling AUParameterSet with that argument and
some reasonable values.
If this does not work, I give up (and won't remove my pointers until
there's a serious application that prohibits them).
btw is there any function that lists all currently running AUs of
every process? - I want to write iScrAUmbler, a little brushed metal
tool that randomizes the settings of all active AudioUnits...
Ooh. I'm impatiently waiting for this one :-) But that's only an
assumption :-))
