Hmmm, you could printf the ComponentInstance pointer to the console.
Then you launch a little commandline tool you've written in about 4
minutes which takes this number as argument. Your command line tool
does nothing else than calling AUParameterSet with that argument and
some reasonable values.
You don't seriously think this is going to work, Urs ???
This is MacOS X, not MacOS 9...

Hello? Protected memory anyone? You can't have one process directly

You see, I can answer two mails in one go, so... 8-)
No seriously, I see that my example was too simple. It's been late
yesterday and my first coffee today, so I havn't falsified myself, yet.
However, I don't see why there shouldn't be such client-server
structures of audio apps in the future. There had been (are?) a few
attempts to build virtual studios via the internet, where I think each
client talked audio stream. I could easily imagine distributed view/dsp
scenarios, like a central AU render farm here and some musicians
playing live together on other continents. VSTlink already gives us a
glimpse of this...
Besides, Component Manager is a wicked thingy. I wouldn't be surprised
if it was easier than we think...
Cheers,
;) Urs (booting slowly today)
