Like many others, I use pointers between the GUI and DSP components
to implement a sensible callback scheme which offers type safety
and supports c++ objects. If the component/property system were
able to span processes and hosts however, it would open up some
interesting possibilities.

The problem with VStack is that the plugin's GUI must run on on
the plugin machine. A GUI which could run on a separate host would
mean the sequencer machine could run all the plugin GUI's while
relegating the DSP tasks to other machines.
