Yes - we understand the importance of this and yes we have worked to
remedy this - it is not on the back-burner by any means. You should
send a request to your favourite DAW application that they support this
when it is available from us, to make sure that they do the necessary
work on their end (as we can only do some of this)

I know this list is for developers, put please bear
with me as my question/feature request is important to
any DAW users on OSX.
I'm an end user of Nuendo, and with the latest upgrade
(v 2.0), Nuendo for Macs has moved from OS 9 ASIO
drivers to OS X and Core Audio exclusively. With this
move, we have lost Direct Monitoring, because,
according to Nuendo and the hardware vendors, Core
Audio does not currently support this feature.
Is Apple working to implement this feature in a future
CA release (like maybe in Panther)?
If this is not on the front burner, I would like to
encourage the developers at Apple to make it a
priority. Professional recording techniques require
"tape machine" style zero-latency hardware monitoring
of inputs for overdubs, and if a host-based system
can't support it, recording engineers will not use
that system.
