AMS will give you this play through capabilitiy if the device supports
this in hardware (for eg built in does), but won't if it doesn't (USB
devices don't normally unless they have implemented the USB mixer spec
- this has been problematic for both the devices and drivers to support
in the past - I'm not sure on the current status of this)
