Well it might be my lack of understanding of AUs but it seems that most
of the available AUs only provide stereo channel busses. Which means
we've got to be able to pan them in order to mix effectively. Apple's
DLS synth, for example, is pannable (sp?) using the MIDI pan control
and is able to load stereo soundfonts (I believe).
Perhaps we should request that AUs come with a full description of
busses and channels. Right now it's kind of a guessing game. When I buy
a rack module I can quickly check the back to figure out my wiring
options. Perhaps I need to write a utility to do this?

The lack of decent mixing is a major hindrance for us host
developers. Is panning stereo sources really hard?
Is writing a mixer really hard? I want to rewrite Rax to allow
arbitrary routing between devices etc. but the lack of a decent mixer
is making it seem rather futile.
