The AudioFile API has a bug wrt little endian aifc files

Please see this message : "AIFC files : temporary "AudioFile API fix""

maybe it could help you if you need to support all aiff/aifc files using the AudioFile API

I am currently experimenting with some audio playback. So far, I have been using the QuickTime SoundPlayer sample code. I tried using the same audio file (an AIFF from an audio CD) with the PlayAudioFile sample code and all that I get through my speakers is a bunch of noise. It sounds like audio noise or the static that you used to hear when a television station went off the air. I have verified that this occurs with the built-in audio support as well as the M-Audio Revolution sound card. Are there some known problems with this sample code?

The sample code probably doesn't deal with the 'compression' from the file. AIFF files from Audio CDs are in little-endian byte order, so just playing without byte swapping will produce noise.

Failure is not an option. It is a privilege reserved for those who try.
