an AU in-memory and register it without any component on
disk - or is this just something that the ComponentManager
in general doesn't support?
You should ask that Carbon Dev list.
One year ago, I asked a similar question (register components from
memory for use in another process, subject "AU on the fly" or so), and
there was a clear NO despite the documentation saying differently. But
maybe that was only because of inter process access, and because the
docs had been outdated.
If it's possible to register a component from memory, there shouldn't
speak anything against it being an Audio Unit.
