Actually, I think the biggest hold up has been the Generic View not
working properly in compositing mode. For all of Apple's audio units I
get various graphics appearing in the wrong place, and if I make the
window metal, I get an over abundance of the aqua background appearing
all over the window for some views. So while it's great to see more
custom views going compositing savvy, it's the generic view that is
likely holding up most =(.

Really? I've been tinkering with AudioUnitHosting and SynthTest with
compositing enabled, also metal and non-metal, and the Generic View works
fine so far as I've seen, except for the new level meter controls (in
Apple's AUMultiBandCompressor, AUDynamicsProcessor, and AUPeakLimiter)
which show up in the wrong places. I know that Peak 4 has been using
metal windows for generic view AU editors all along, too. Maybe you are
using an out of date version?

I'm running a fresh Panther install. All I did from the basic AUHosting was to enabled compositing and metal. I also toyed around with compositing mode in a program that I've been working on off and on since the WWDC builds without much success. For example the EQ in a compositing window will not always display the frequency cutoffs.

Unless there is some preference in that tells the generic view not to support compositing mode, my experiences with it have been on the unfortunate side =(.

Reality is what, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
Failure is not an option. It is a privilege reserved for those who try.
