kAudioHardwareIllegalOperationError

I get a kAudioHardwareIllegalOperationError in my AudioDeviceStop function.

What does this actually mean? My app was working fine, then I start getting this message, but I have no idea what change is causing the error. The CoreAudio docs say nothing about this problem... Please help me understand the cause of this error. Thanks in advance...
