The HAL just retrieves this value for this property from the driver via the IORegistry. It is up to the driver to supply the proper information in the IORegistry. The transport type property was new in 10.2 so any drivers that weren't updated after that probably won't support the property.

I recently purchased a Digigram VXpocket interface, for testing. I was disappointed to discover that HAL returns "other" as the transport type. I was expecting it to return "pci". Thus my application displays a question mark icon next to it, in my device list. Is this something that should be enhanced in HAL (ie adding a PC-card transport type), or is it a driver bug, returning an unknown type? Radar at the ready...
