digidesign CoreAudio drivers

  • Subject: digidesign CoreAudio drivers

I am having a few other problems with the Digidesign CoreAudio drivers. I am using an mBox. *sigh*

Despite padding with a silent buffer, I receive glitches on the onset of playback. This behavior does not occur using the same playback code with the following interfaces., Apple built-in, EMI 2|6, Delta 1010, and MOTU 828. It is not known to occur with others. Any advice? Sympathy maybe?

More insidious, is that that a particular playback run is often randomly scaled, wholesale, by a large number, somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000. (but much less than 32768.). The result: the playback signal is distorted beyond recognition. Once the scaling occurs, the driver seems to continue to scale all audio samples by roughly the same value for several different playback requests. Thus I scaled my audio stream by 1/1000, and heard the intended result. But sometimes the requirement for scaling disappears. It is unpredictable. Is there some sort of explicit scaling that I need to be doing with the CoreAudio drivers? I have never had to be concerned about scaling with other hardware, with the exception of the Delta1010 (which was far more consistent) and they corrected the problem in a driver update.

Christopher
